New Alipore College Library, Kolkata supports the main objective of the institute to become an institution of its repute. It is also committed to support the institute’s mission for seamless integration of teaching and learning and imparting high quality education to young undergraduate students of the college. It plays an important role in supporting the academic programmes of the institute. It identifies, evaluates, procures, processes and then makes these learning resources available to the faculty and students for their teaching and research.
The New Alipore College Library enriched with a large stock of valuable Books, both text and reference, Journals, Magazines and Daily News Papers for both lending and reference purposes. The library also provides access to subscribed and open access-resources through the digital library service. All the students and staff members have access to every resource and service provided by the library against library membership card.
Library remain open from 8 o’clock in the morning to 7 o’clock in the evening on all working days from Monday to Friday and also on Saturdays from 8 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon to cater the need of the all three shifts of the college.
All library users share in the responsibility for making the libraries safe and pleasant places for research, reading, study, and productive work. All the users are expected to observe the rules and guidelines outlined below.
All are requested to maintain dignified silence inside library. Talking loudly inside the library premises should be avoided.
Mobiles should be turned to silent mode when entering the Libraries. If you must make or receive calls, please be considerate of others. Please keep calls short and move to corridor outside.
All the users of the Library are required to keep their bags, cases, folders and other belongings at the property counter before entering the reading rooms. Only laptop, tab, ipad, notebooks and library books to be returned will be allowed inside. Please do not leave any valuables at the property counter. Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings. Library does not permit any exception in the observance of this rule
Note that any unattended belongings are left at the owner's risk and users are strongly advised not to leave valuables even if they will be away from the desk for a short time.
Beverages and eatables are not allowed inside the library reading rooms (General Reading Room and Teacher’s Reading Room).
Smoking is not permitted inside the Library premises
Library Membership Card is compulsory for getting access to the library.
No visitor or guest is permitted to use the Library without the prior permission of the Librarian. She/He is required to produce a proper introduction letter from the concerned Institution/Organization to which she/he is attached.
Users are requested to enter their details in user attendance registers at the entrance of reading room.
Books removed from the shelves by users for consultation, should be kept on the circulation counter or on table nearest to them after use. Re-shelving of the books by user is strictly prohibited It may be mentioned that a book misplaced is a book lost.
Users should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way. If anyone is found doing so, he/she will be charged the full replacement cost of the resource as per rule. Books borrowed should be protected from rain, dust, insects etc.
Members of the library are advised not to issue books to others on their names/ card.
All the books issued to the students must be returned before due date as stamped on the date label of the issued book to avoid fine. All the library books should be returned before University Examination in order to get library clearance. Without library clearance student shall be denied admit card/mark sheet.
Before registering for new session, all the dues of the library must be clear including overdue books else these borrowing facilities shall be withhold.
All the books issued to library members (Teaching and Non-teaching staffs) must be returned at the time of Summer Recess for physical verification.
Library reserves the right to call back any issued book/item at any time.
Students and outsiders are not allowed to enter the circulation area without the consent of the library staff.
Library furniture, fittings or equipment must not be misused or their arrangement altered.
No library equipment (computers, printers, furniture and like) can be tampered, moved or modified without permission from the librarian.
Please do not remove any connected device (like LAN card, mouse, printer etc) from computers.
Note that the Library Attendants at the circulation counter are authorized to examine any book in possession of the library user at any time. All files, books and notebooks, if asked, must be presented to the library attendant for inspection while leaving the Library.
Library staffs have the right to ask students to leave the library premises if they are behaving inappropriately or in any way causing disturbance to the other users.
The Library sub-committee and Librarian have the power to suspend/ exclude from the use of the library any user who disregards the library Rules and Regulations.
The Librarian, with the approval of the Principal/ Convener of the library committee, reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any of these rules as and when required.
The New Alipore College Library support the teaching, research and learning mission of the by New Alipore College providing access to the broadest possible range of ideas, opinions, and knowledge. To that end, the Library subscribes to and makes available various electronic information resources of local, national, and international origin and interest. These resources include periodicals, online catalogues, full text databases and the Internet. These resources are available for individual educational and research purposes only.

The library is fully automated. The students are provided with barcoded library membership cards and issue return of the library books is automated done through Integrated Library Management Software KOHA.
On 13th March 2019 New Alipore College Library signed MOU with Women’s Christian College for library collaboration. This collaboration is the first step towards resource sharing between the two colleges through providing the access and use of library resources between students and faculty members of the both colleges.
Q.How can I become a member of the l Library?
Library provides notification at the beginning of new academic session and also from time to time directing students to register for new card. A new user has to fill up the membership registration card available at Circulation Counter and submit it along with two stamp size photograph showing College Identity Card and Bank challan. While collecting the library card, the respective user should produce his / her College Identity Card. After collecting the Library Card one can borrow books from the Library.
Q: What is the library opening timing?
The library is kept open on all the week days, except the general holidays and college holidays from Monday to Friday at 8 AM to 7PM, Saturday at 8 AM to 4PM.
Q.How can I locate books on the shelf?
The library uses Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system to classify its documents and each book is given a unique accession number to identify it. Books are kept on the racks in the ascending order of the classification numbers assigned to them in Open shelves in the General Reading Room of the Library. one can locate the books by knowing their classification number from OPAC accessible through intranet.
Q: If I do not get the book on shelf, what can I do?
In case, you don’t find the required book on shelf; you may check the status of the book in OPAC and get the help of the library staff to locate the book.
Q: How OPAC search helps me to locate the documents?
OPAC is the On-line Public Access Catalogue and you can search the books available in the library by putting any of the key words, subject, author, title or call numbers or accession numbers known for the documents in the search box in computer. It shows you the bibliographical details of the documents along with its location in the library.
Q. How can I give any suggestion to library authority regarding provision of the quality service to the users?
An authorized user can drop his/her suggestions by writing on suggestion form or on a plain paper in the suggestion box placed at the entrance of the l Library. Library management attaches great significance to these suggestions for providing improved and qualitative library services.
Q: Can I bring my personal books and other reading materials to the library?
Laptop, notebooks are allowed inside the library during library hours. Personal books are not allowed inside the library reading rooms.
Q. Can I renew a book?
Library books are issued for 15 days only. Renewal facility is not available to students.
Q: How much fine I have to pay if I would not return book within the stipulated date?
A borrowed book should be returned within the due date; otherwise one rupee per day per book will be charged from the user as overdue charge.
Q: What should I do if the book I borrowed got lost?
If a user loses a borrowed library book, then he/she has to make an application immediately to the Librarian to get relief from paying the delay fine from the date of application and to take the
following actions whichever is permissible as per library rules:
a) Replace the lost book by a new book as per the library regulation; or
b) Pay the current price of the lost book.
Q: What shall I do if I lost the library membership card?
In case of loss of the library membership card, a duplicate library identity card may be issued on the basis of application to the librarian supported with an FIR lodged in local police station along with the receipt of Rs 25/- deposited at the circulation counter.
Q: What shall I do if I need the clearance of dues from the library?
No dues / Clearance certificate is issued provided that all the outstanding dues in respect of borrowed book(s) and delay fine, if any, are cleared. Library Membership Card must be produced at the time of getting clearance. Staff members and Faculty members are also required to clear that all the outstanding dues in respect of borrowed book(s) in order to get No dues / Clearance certificates.
