The Department of Economics was initiated in the year 1963 with Prof. Nandadulal Das and Prof. Ashok Ghosh as faculty members. Economics was offered as major subject from its very inception. Teachers in the department till date are enlisted below:

In our structure there are no administrative posts, nor any technical staff, neither do we have any part time or guest faculty presently.
In the department, Economics Hons and General course are offered to the students. At present there are two types of students in the department – CBCS and previous (1+1+1) system for both Honours and General. Department conducts Regular class tests and also follows Examination and Evaluation system framed by our affiliating University.
Faculty members of the department are involved in various research activities. They publish their articles in different reputed ISSN Journals, ISBN volumes, Seminar Proceedings regularly.
There exists a departmental library in the department and every student can borrow books from the departmental library. The department is in the process of building a computer lab.
The department strives to organize seminars, talks and students’ seminars on a regular basis. .Educational excursions are also arranged for the students for building up their socio-economic awareness. The department is in the process of signing a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Gokhale Memorial Girls’ College for faculty exchange and students interaction in modern ideas of economics.
