Women’s safety has been one of the top priorities of any civilization. The nature of women safety related problem has changed more and more with the changing norms in society especially in a overgrowing and ever changing urbanization.
The ‘Sukanya Project’ in West Bengal was introduced by the ‘Community Policing Wing’, of Kolkata Police and envisioned by our honourable Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee with a view to eradicate and minimize the possibility of commencing offence against women. ‘Sukanya Project’ was launched with its formal inauguration on 24.02.2014 at ‘khudiram Anushilan Kendra’. The basic objective of this project is to build confidence amongst the girl students of the schools and colleges by means of imparting self-defence training.
‘Sukanya Project’ for the session 2017-2018 had been started from 14th November 2017 in our college. We selected three working days that is Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in every week for this three months long training programme. We had one batch of 36 participants comprising of students from various subjects. Two trainers/supervisors Mr. Aaquib and Mr.Rahul was appointed for our students by the ‘Community Policing Wing’(CPW) of Kolkata Police Directorate for proper and successful running of the course work. Our students also participated in various events of ‘Sukanya’ competition and shows organized by the Kolkata Police. They also got prizes in many events. At the end of this training programme students received certificates of participation in a grand certificate distribution ceremony held on 25th September at Nazrul Mancha. Sajida Parveen, a student of Bengali (Hons.) of our college selected as best student of our college and received certificate of excellence from our honourable Minister Smt. Sashi Panja. We are thankful to the Government of West Bengal and Kolkata Police for such a wonderful and empowering opportunity.
