Department of History

The Department of History of New Alipore College started its journey right from the inspection of the in 1963 (General and Honors) .The department arranges History Classes to all the students of 1st year of B.A., (both Honours and General ) programme. As per University guideline and the policy of the academic committee of the institution for undergraduate students, the department follows annual system. The teachers also arrange continuous assessment along with Class tests, Mid-term examinations, and Selection tests as per University guideline. As per requirement tutorial classes are conducted by the department. One U.G.C. sponsored State Level  seminar Jointly organized by PaschimBanga Itihas Samsad and Department of History named –“History of Public Opinion in India” dated 25th and 26th September, 2012 was held in the College. College Library is enriched with the History text and reference books of new syllabus as well as old valuable books. Open access system in the Library attracts the students. In order to help the students a departmental library is functioning. The faculty always try to encourage students to take active part and arrange programmes like Departmental cultural function, publishing magazine etc. The Department arranges educational tours, field trips and excursions for the students every year.

Fees for Admission in History Honors is Rs-2030 (Without  Journalism, Education and Geography as General Subjects)

(Extra Payment for Education Rs-720, Journalism Rs- 3600 and for Geography Rs-2500 at the time of admission)

Seminars, Talks etc

  • Department had hosted 20th Annual Conference of Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad in 2004.
  • Department had organized two UGC sponsored State Level Seminar.
1. Seminar on ‘History of Human Development in India’ in 2004.
2. Seminar on ‘History of Public Opinion in India’ in 2012.
  • Department had organized a number of other seminars, talks etc. Among those mention may be made of:
  • Lecture on ‘An Analysis of Theology in the Perspective of Indian History’ by Professor Amalendu Dey in 2004.
  • Lecture on the ‘Social History of Ancient India’ by Dr. Kalyan Chaudhuri in 2006.
  • Seminar on ‘Revolt of 1857: A Retrospect in the Post Centenary Golden Jubilee Year’ in 2007. An exhibition on the theme was also organized.
